It was a gorgeous day!! The water right outside of our boat was pretty smooth. The sky blue. The wind was gusting but it didn’t seem too terribly bad. But there was a weather advisory for the Chesapeake Bay area we were in. Small craft warnings. We didn’t want to encounter 3-6ft waves so we stayed in our nice cozy slip.
We decided to stretch our legs and go around the marina to the “other side”. To see what we could find. Actually, the touristy map – the kind that makes caricatures of the stores and local area – indicated there were 2 ice-cream stores. How exciting. One is hand dipped ice-cream store and the other offers soft serve. It is hot outside and ice cream will definitely cool us down!
We walked down the driveway to the main street behind the marina. It is residential and quiet. We had always heard about “the Solomon’s” as being a very touristy kind of place so where are all the tourists? Is it too soon? Ahhhh, here they are!! Boat rentals, Bait shops, 2 restaurants, and more. People and the cars they bring. Traffic!! We haven’t seen traffic in a while. We even had to remember to look both ways before crossing the street. How soon we forget the simple things when you are on a boat.
Bait and Tackle… and Hershey’s Icecream? The Hershey Ice Cream sign is just behind the bait & tackle sign. All from the same store front. Hmmm do they ever mixup the two?? We did walk up to the ice-cream window and didn’t see or hear anyone. Maybe we should have walked up to the Bait window??
We looked across the street. People hanging out in front of the soft serve ice creamery. Perfect!! We enjoyed a cone of soft serve which, of course, dribbled on my shirt before I could eat it. hahaha This always happens. You wash your favorite shirt, eat ice cream, and find dribbles all down the front of it. Wayne had the young lady put his ice-cream in a cup. He was much smarter than I. 😉
For you history buffs.
We were buzzed by planes almost every day.
Today, I was able to quickly take pictures as they zoomed overhead. I cropped them as best as I could. I don’t know anything about the planes. They look different. One a trainer?? You men know this innately. Which one is which? Any ideas?

Sometimes, there is only the one dark plane zooming overhead. No sound barrier broken but an awful lot of noise!!
The afternoon storm finally came. The electricity for much of the Solomon’s was off for about an hour. People popped their heads out of their boats when the power went out. Just like gophers. Is it me?? Or the marina?? or the whole town?? A great way to meet your neighbor is when the power goes off.
We met a lovely couple that had docked in the marina late in the afternoon, just before the thunderclouds opened up. They said their trip on the Chesapeake Bay was a bad one. 4-6ft seas and lots of rolling. The small craft advisory was accurate after all!! Glad we stayed an extra day. Otherwise, we would have missed this great sunset!

Wow- that sunset looks like a postcard! I am glad you stayed an extra day so you could see it. I think those “planes” are just two large birds doing the loop and watching over you.
