August 11 2014 – Finally arrived at Punta Gorda, FL

First we stopped off to get a rental car. Piece of cake. Except we couldn’t find it. No sign by the side of the road, just an address that didn’t make sense. A phone call and wha-la…. Enterprise hides their rental cars within a car dealership repair facility. Hmmmm makes sense. You do need a rental if you have to have serious work done on your car, right?

I am in the rental car leading the uHaul truck going to the storage unit. We have no clue where we are going. Just following the voice on the phone. We decided that since we didn’t know what we were going to find on the boat, we would store our goods and slowly add them to the boat over the next couple of weeks. We had our wonderful daughter and her equally wonderful husband help load the truck in Arizona. Where were they when we needed to unload? No where near by!! We rented a large unit so we would have room to stack and sort. HOT – HOT – HUMID both inside the uHaul AND inside the storage unit. Come to think about it, it was hot and humid outside as well.

We almost collapsed!! Taking frequent breaks and drinking cool water seemed to help. By the time we unloaded and drove out of the storage facility, we were just minutes away from the uHaul return location. We skidded into uHaul Rental place just before closing. We must have looked like we had just walked 2600 miles uphill and against the wind! Whew!

We will never ever move again!!

August 10, 2014 – Florida still

Driving south on I-75 is like driving across Texas.  Seems like it goes on forever!!

Did find this sign the last time we visited this lovely state:

Alligators Sign

Beware – you are now in Florida!

Snakes in Texas?
Alligators in Florida?
Mushrooms in Louisiana?

Hilarious!

August 2014 – Florida looks like a green Arizona.

Flat. Slightly hilly. More green.

Florida

Florida? Looks just like a green Arizona.

THEN we hit a road block on I-75. When we made appointments we hadn’t planned on a roadblock that seemed to stop traffic for miles. We finally found an exit and with the help of my handy-dandy smart phone, we were able to find a road running parallel to I-75.

We are prepared to buy the squirrel

We are prepared to buy the squirrel

We were out in the middle of some random road. We were prepared to “buy the squirrel”. (movie reference) There was little traffic so all those scary movies flashed through our minds…”wrong turn”, “rest stop”, etc. Rainy days with grey skies are always how the movies start. Windshield wipers flapping back and forth. Screeching as the wiper blade hit a dry spot. A rhythm of sorts.

We really didn’t need to worry. We soon passed golf courses and lovely large homes on multi acre lots. A few shopping areas. Back on I-75 and on our way!

August – Mobile – Visit with Family and Rest

We met the family and had a wonderful time. Chatting and catching up on everyone’s lives filled our days. Neighborhood gossip. We were invited to a family get-together on Dauphin Island.

I tried to stir things up with noting the Super Moon was Saturday night. Maybe that brings “super vampires” and “Super werewolves”. No takers. Hahaha

Super Moon Aug 9, 2014

We did watch a storm front move in. Gorgeous clouds. We just don’t see these kinds of clouds much in Arizona. So they were particularly stunning for us. These pictures don’t show the beauty of all the different shades of grey. Distant rumbles told us it was time to go home before the storm centered over our heads.

Daugphin island storm

Daughin Island Storm. Shades of Grey are unbelievable

Leaving Alabama was bitter sweet. We needed to get back on the road but just felt we didn’t have enough gossip time for everyone. Maybe the next time we are in town we can gossip more!!

HELP IN AISLE 2 –
We stopped at Walgreens on the way out of town to pick up some “Shower-to-Shower” powder. I couldn’t find it so I asked the woman at the register for help. I was thinking maybe in this store they put the powders in a different place. “older lady on aisle 2 needs assistance” screamed the woman. I am looking up and down aisle 2. Who is she talking about. ME?!! I am the only customer in the whole store! She couldn’t have just said customer on aisle 2. Noooooo…. Older lady. I don’t have a clue whom she is referring to!

Large enough to be a UFO!! Gorgeous.

And the road trip just never ends. Another day on the black highway of America.
