August 24, 2015 – in Petoskey, MI – Bear River & North Country Trail

Good morning Fisher-folks!  I heard this story today about the salmon are beginning to swim up stream for spawning.  What stream?  Bear River!!  Bear River empties within the Petoskey Marina basin.

You don’t see any jumping salmon, do you?  I figure that if I took pictures, one might just sneak through.

We have been by several times in the last week and have not seen any jumping salmon.  It may be too soon in the season.  Don’t tell these fishing folk that it is too soon.  I counted as many as a dozen poles and fishing line in the water at the same time.  How do they keep their lines from getting tangled?  THEN the guy I was standing by said “FISH!!”.  I assume to alert everyone else he had something on his hook.  Yep.  A fish.  Then it broke the line and went swimming away.

I saw a path that ran along the Bear River.  I had to walk on it.  Just to see where it went.  It was a lovely little walk.  Unbeknownst to me, I was walking on the North Country Trail.
